How To Get Engagement on Facebook

Getting engagement on your Facebook business page can be a tricky. Gone are the days when you could post anything and everything and expect it to go out to the masses.

These days, you have to work at it.

That’s not a bad thing. Facebook algorithms are developing all the time and they are highly focussed on engagement, which means they want your followers to react to your content.

To do this, you need to put thought into your posts. You need to create content that’s designed for your followers and not for you.

Consider their pain points, the emotional connection and don’t forget their sense of humour. This is not a platform to be serious all of the time. These followers want to see your personality.

Here’s our top tips to getting engagement on Facebook

Pose a question

Facebook and Instagram are fun platforms. They are more personal, so your content doesn’t have to be all business.

Ask your followers a question that they will WANT to answer. It could be anything from favourite pizza topping to what film they would like to star in.

It’s always good to have a little light-hearted fun. Think about #fundayfriday or #mondaymadness.

Give your followers a choice

When you have a decision to make, for example brand colours or a logo, it’s great to get your followers involved.

They love it!!

It doesn’t matter if you’ve already decided on your own personal choice, just get your followers involved. It makes them feel important and as if they are part of your journey.

Timing is everything

Monitor when your followers are online. If they are never active at 9am, there is no point in posting at that time.

You need to catch them at the optimum moment so research when the majority are active and schedule your posts for that time.

You can do this by looking at your insights. Go to insights, last 7 or 28 days, posts and look at the differences in times and days.

Visually impact

Facebook is a visual platform. Your followers love images. Don’t forget, Facebook and Instagram go hand in hand, so this makes sense.

Make yourself comfortable with platforms such as Canva and create great images to go with all of your posts.

There are others out there!

Engaging with other Facebook business pages could really benefit you.  It could be another business in the same industry or just businesses that you follow.

Get involved in the conversation.

Don’t forget, it’s not just about what you post, it’s about how active you are so the more people see you, the more likely they are to follow you.

Call to action

Wherever possible, include a call to action button. If you want people to engage on your posts, tell them how to do it.

If you don’t ask, you don’t get!

Hot stuff

Don’t be afraid to share industry news or hot topics. Even if that means sharing someone else’s content.

If there is an industry expert or body that shares information, make sure your followers see it too.

If you would want to know it, then your followers would as well and this is a great way to create engagement on your Facebook page.

Frequency

Don’t be set on your post frequency. Keep an eye on it.

If you’re not getting great engagement, it could be that you’re not posting enough or you’re posting too much.

Keep an eye on it and adjust accordingly.

Giggle box!

This isn’t a serious platform so be prepared to have some fun.

There is nothing wrong with sharing animal pics, memes, jokes or anything else with a little humour. This is great for engagement.

Be responsive

Always respond to every comment. Even if it’s a simple thumbs up or thank you, you need to be seen to be reactive.

Don’t forget that Facebook algorithms react to the activity on a post so if you have 5 comments, and you respond to each one, you have instantly doubled your activity.

The more comments that are on a post, the more likely people are to be interested and will click to read the comments.

It shows you care. Simple!

Go live

We know this is a scary concept but the more you can go live, the better.

It’s no different to making a video on LinkedIn. It doesn’t matter if it’s ten seconds or ten minutes, the more you do it, the more people will tune in to it.

Share your tips in a live. Be brave!!!

Emotionally connect

Facebook is a platform that screams emotion. If something happens in your life that you would share on your personal page, why not share it with your followers?

For example, getting engaged, a birthday, a work anniversary. Your followers love to know you so emotionally connect with them at every opportunity.

This forms part of your social selling strategy.

Don’t forget the value

As much as this is a more light-hearted platform, your followers are there because they like what you do.

Always look to add value by sharing your tips, questions, product info etc.

It’s all about getting a balance.

Trendy

What’s trending in your industry? Facebook are started to get better at using hashtags so now is the time to tap into this.

If something is trending in your industry, share it with your followers and use the relevant hashtag so they can find it for themselves.

Quiz them!

Quizzes and polls are great for engagement. It’s another way to get your followers involved.

Whether it is industry related or just a bit of fun, it’s worth having this as a post once in a while to keep them interested.

Get competitive

There is nothing wrong with hosting a Facebook competition as long as it’s relative.

Don’t give away something that has nothing to do with your business just to get page likes and engagement. It will backfire!

However, if you are giving away something relevant to your business, this can work a treat.

It gets people excited; it shows how many people actually want to use your service and it can be great to boost likes and engagement.

Ultimately, you need to think about what you enjoy seeing on Facebook. Don’t forget it’s called social media for a reason. It’s social so keep your followers in mind and you won’t’ go far wrong.
